Thiruvananthapuram: former Goa Governor Sreedharan Pillai called upon the senior journalists in India to get more actively involved in national issues, as they have great experience and contacts across the social and political spectrum.
He was delivering the keynote address at the senior journalists national conference at Thiruvananthapuram this evening. He said those in media fraternity should get sufficient resources to live in dignity in retirement.
He said the media tried to exaggerate things and it was the same people who faced their attacks who actually helped them the most in getting social and economic benefits.
Former Industries Minister and Muslim League leader P Zk Kunhalikktty, in his address, said it was a moment of nostalgia for him as he see many friends in the media professional in the past assembled at the conference.
He said the media has been part of the democratic process, with all its warts.
Former union minister, K V Thomas, said many veterans in the media have been his guides in public life. Many seniors in Delhi like TaVR Shenoy, V K Madhavan Kutty, and B G Verghese were among our guiding lights, he said.
The SJFI national conference concluding session was presided over by its newly elected president Sandip Dikshit. It's general secretary, N P Chekkutty, welcomed the gathering. Reception committee member Jacob George proposed a vote of thanks.
